Message From The Founders
MAA is a national association comprised of real estate attorneys and mortgage professionals dedicated to protecting borrowers from unethical lending practices and confusing loan terms. Prior to founding MAA, we witnessed many borrowers who became the victims of misrepresentations, misconduct, fraud, and overall confusion regarding the terms of their home loans. This trend continued to accelerate, compelling us to do something to help stop it.
As real estate attorneys, brokers, and investors we became well aware of the many pitfalls that await unprotected borrowers. These range from misunderstanding the loan terms to mortgage malfeasance. The majority of American borrowers do not understand their home loan. This includes even the most sophisticated of borrowers, such as attorneys, doctors, and engineers. Some of the most intelligent borrowers we have met throughout our careers have been unable to understand many of the important terms of their loans.
The loan documents are daunting and difficult to understand, even with an ethical mortgage broker by your side. When mortgage misconduct enters the picture, this task becomes next to impossible. Misconduct can arise in a number of ways. Many mortgage brokers are not entirely straightforward regarding the total amount they stand to make from your loan. For instance, did you know that most mortgage brokers stand to make thousands of dollars from the Lender, which will ultimately cause your interest rates to go up? This compensation is almost never disclosed by the broker. To make matters worse, some brokers may even convince you to sign onto a loan that the broker knows is not in your best interest so that the mortgage broker can later refinance your loan and earn additional fees. Still others may actually misrepresent the material terms of the loan you are preparing to sign.
At MAA we recognize that borrowers need the aid of a third party who is experienced in reviewing home loans and cutting through broker verbiage. To that end, we offer two services designed to ensure your protection: MAA Review and MAA Legal Advice. MAA Review will provide you the borrower with comprehensive, independent and reliable review, explanation and summary of essential terms in your home loan that you need to understand. This service is offered for a flat fee of only $395. MAA Legal Advice will provide you with the services of an experienced real estate attorney in your state who will offer legal advice, review and explain your documents, negotiate terms, and even accompany you during the signing of your loan documents, all for a discounted hourly rate.
It is our mission at MAA is to protect you from unethical lending practices and to ensure that you fully understand your home loan. We look forward to protecting you and your greatest investment.
The founders of MAA, are licensed real estate attorneys and real estate brokers. Their collective experience includes, among other things, reviewing real estate loan and transfer documents (promissory notes, deeds of trust, mortgages, assignments of rents, warranty deeds, bills of sale, guaranties, and purchase agreements). Some of our attorneys have also litigated against unethical mortgage brokers and other professionals in cases involving real estate purchase contracts, loan agreements, promissory notes, and other real estate loan documents.
